Little Lion Man
(Edward Dwane / Banjamin Lovett / Winston Marshall / Marcus Mumford)
3:44

Weep for yourself, my man,
You’ll never be what is in your heart
Weep Little Lion Man,
You’re not as brave as you were at the start

Rate yourself and rake yourself,
Take all the courage you have left
Wasted on fixing all the problems
That you made in your own head

But it was not_your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn’t I, my dear?
Didn’t I, my…

Tremble for yourself, my man,
You know that you have seen this all before
Tremble Little Lion Man,
You’ll never settle any of your scores

Your grace is wasted in your face,
Your boldness stands alone among the wreck
Now learn from your mother or else spend your days
Biting your own neck

But it was not your fault but mine, and it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time, didn’t I, my dear?
But it was not your fault but mine, and it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time, didn’t I, my dear?

The Hanging Tree
(Jeremiah Fraites / Wesley Schultz)
3:46

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where dead man called out
For his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run,
So we’d both be free.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Wear a necklace of rope,
Side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run,
So we’d both be free.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree

Hunger of the Pine
(Thom Green / Joe Newman / Gus Unger-Hamilton)
4:31

Sleeplessly embracing
Butterflies and needles
Line my seamed-up join
Encased in case
I need it in my stomach,
For my heart chain mail
Hunger of the pine Hunger of the pine Hunger

Sleeplessly embracing
Yawn yearns into me
Plenty more tears in the sea
And so you finally use it
Bedding with me you see at night
Your heart wears knight armor
Hunger of the pine
(Je t’aime encore, Je t’adore)
I still love you I still want you
Sleeplessly Embracing You

Realization grew on me
As quickly as it takes your hand
To warm the cool side of the pillow
I’m there for you, be there for me
I’ll hum the song the soldiers sing
As they march outside our window

A million roads, a million fears
A million suns, ten million years of uncertainty
I could speak a million lies, a million songs,
A million rights, a million wrongs in this balance of time

Une immense espérance a traversé la terre
Une immense espérance a traversé ma peur

Royals
(Joel Little / Ella Yelich O’Connor)
3:31

I’ve never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I’m not proud of my address,
In a torn-up town, no postcode envy

But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room,
We don’t care; we’re driving cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody’s like cristal, maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don’t care; we aren’t caught up in your love affair

And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood,
That kind of lux just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule
Let me live that fantasy

My friends and I—we’ve cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party (paari)
And every/one who knows us knows
That we’re fine with this,
We didn’t come from money

But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room,
We don’t care; we’re driving cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody’s like cristal, maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don’t care; we aren’t caught up in your love affair

And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule
Let me live that fantasy

Ooh ooh oh
We’re bigger than we ever dreamed,
And I’m in love with being queen.
Ooh ooh oh
Life is great without a care
We aren’t caught up in your love affair

And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule
Let me live that fantasy

Sedated
(Andrew Hozier-Byrne)
3:44

Just a little rush, babe
To feel dizzy, to derail the mind of me
Just a little hush, babe
Our veins are busy but my heart’s in atrophy
Any way to distract and sedate
Adding shadows to the walls of the cave

You and I nursing on a poison that never stung
Our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it
Somewhere for this, death and guns
We are deaf, we are numb
Free and young and we can’t feel none of it

Something isn’t right, babe
I keep catching little words but the meaning’s thin
I’m somewhere outside my life, babe
I keep scratching but somehow I can’t get in
So we’re slaves to any semblance of touch
Lord we should quit but we love it too much

Sedated we’re nursing on a poison that never stung
Our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it
Somewhere for this, death and guns
We are deaf, we are numb
Free and young and we can’t feel none of it

Darlin’, don’t you, stand there watching, won’t you
Come and save me from it
Darlin’, don’t you, join in, you’re supposed to
Drag me away from it

Any way to distract and sedate
Adding shadows to the walls of the cave

You and I nursing on a poison that never stung
Our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it
Somewhere for this, death and guns
We are deaf, we are numb
Free and young and we can’t feel none of it

Sedated we’re nursing on a poison that never stung
Our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it
Somewhere for this, death and guns
We are deaf, we are numb
Free and young and we can’t feel none of it

Entrelaçar
(Badi Assad / João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
4:13

Leva-me pelos caminhos

Galopes no pulsar
Ferro nas coxas, narcotizar

Existem praias tão lindas cheias de luz…

Stranger
(Sam Dew / Sonny Moore / Graham Muvon / Justin Parker)
3:38

Here in the dark I can see who you are
I see so clearly
The beat of my heart just stops and starts
Whenever you’re near me

I just gotta thank you, all the love I gave you
Came and you took it all away
And now there is no pain, there’s everything to gain here
Now that I’m lost I think I’ll stay

In hell, there’s comfort in these flames and I don’t feel the pain
In hell, I’ll forget your name here, you’ll become a stranger

Spirit Dog
(Badi Assad / Sérgio Breim / Daved Levitan)
4:39

I’m like a dog that’s chained out back
Who knows the world for all it lacks
I want to play out in the light
I long for freedom long for sight

Come pick this lock
Come break my chains
Come free the spirit dog

I tear the ground I run the lin
I choke myself until I’m blind
I pant so hard I howl so loud
But no one’s listening past the shroud

Come kiss this mouth
Come touch my mane
Come Free the spirit dog

I feel so wasted, feel so raw
Feel so tempted, chains to gnaw
But if I do I’ll mislay my only chance to seize this day
My wings have landed on the lawn
They stir me frenzy plans are drawn
How can I wait to be unchained
I feel I’ll die without the rain

The lines are blurring past is gone
I have no reference this same song
The moth’s new hour now at hand
The eddy dream no longer stands

Come make me patient
Come make me whole
Come free the spirit dog
Come sing this love
Come dream my life
Come free the spirit dog

Se tu fosses como a rosa…

Vejo Você Aqui
(Badi Assad / Zélia Duncan)
3:29

Pele, pérola
Flores, pétalas
Vinhos, velas
Algo em mim te espera

Silêncio, sílaba
Palavras, mímica
Solidão cíclica
Algo em mim te avista

Âncoras, cânforas, rosas
Tudo vibrando por você
Dentro da casa azulada
No fim da rua comprida, cacheada

Longas notas, músicas novas
Portas e mais portas
Caminhos sem fim
Passeiam por mim
As coisas falam por si

Vejo você aqui.

  1. Dear Ms. Assad,
I had the privilege of seeing you play in Cedar Rapids, IA last week. You are amazing at your craft and you have such a wonderful and positive energy flowing from you. You remind me very much of my friend Marjiel Danse, who is also a musician. She is from Bolivia, but currently residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am an artist in the form of drawing and painting, however I lack any ability to create music. I would love for you to check out Marjiel’s music; you two could be doppelgangers of each other in terms of energy, spirit, messages and music styling. Please, please if you have a moment, check out her website: http://www.marjieldanse.com . Also, I purchased a copy of your CD, Hatched, and I love the music; hat’s off. I would however, like to offer one small suggestion: there are several grammatical and technical mistakes in the wording and even the way the titles of the tracks are capitalized. I’m guessing this may be due to your first language being Portuguese, however; this could be easily corrected with a quick bit of proof-reading and editing and would really make the finished product top-notch. I’m excellent at such things and would be happy to offer any assistance free of charge in the future.
Keep making the world beautiful with your spirit and your music,
    Journey Blu Reed
