For the first time Badi is going to perform in Japan!
If you are from there, please come! And if you just have friends there..
Please let them know 🙂
To participate in a project of this nature and magnitude nowadays is,
besides all the joy and emotion, a necessity. To perform with artists
of so many different nationalities, cultures and religions can be considered a political act.
Proving that Love, besides music itself, is the true universal language.
Among immigrants, refugees and Brazilians, I felt at home in this broadest home,
taht is Mother Earth. It was exciting, unforgettable …
Last Saturday at the Paulo Autran Theater – Sesc Pinheiros / SP.
Mundana Refugi Orchestra, under the baton of Carlinhos Antunes, and me.
Thank you all!!

Two extraordinary artists will perform at the Empress Theatre in Vallejo on July 12 at 8pm. Violinist Kala Ramnath belongs to a violin dynasty from India – seven generations which straddle both the classical systems of the subcontinent. Kala is a musician of giant-like qualities. She has forged musical alliances with artists of renown from different genres around the globe incorporating elements of Western classical, jazz, Flamenco and traditional African music. Kala has performed with the London Symphony and London Philharmonic and was a Grammy nominated for her album Miles from India. Recognized as one of the fifty best instrumentalists of the world by the prestigious Songlines Magazine.
She has worked with musicians including Kai Eckhart, Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, Terry Bozzio, Abbos Kossimov, Ayrto Moreira, Giovanni Hidalgo and rock legend Ray Manzarek of the Doors.
On the same program is Badi Assad – a Brazilian singer, songwriter, percussionist and guitarist in the jazz and worldbeat genres. She transcends traditional styles of her native Brazilian music with a mixture of pop, jazz and world/ethnic sounds from around the world. Badi has worked with artists such as Bob McFerrin, Yo-Yo-Ma, and Sarah McLaughlin. Badi has performed in numerous festivals with artists such as Hermeno Pascoal, Milton Nacimento, Pat Metheny, Francoise-Emmanuelle Denis, Mike Stern, Dori Caymmi, the Duo Assad and others. In 1994, she released her first album with Chesky Records, Solo, which quickly launched her career worldwide. Her follow-up, Rhythms, was a tremendous success, garnering a Best Classical Guitar Album nod from the readers of Guitar Player, Best Classical Guitarist from Acoustic Guitar, and scores of other accolades. Badi has been featured numerous times on NPR, appeared on television, and continues to bring her music to fans at festivals and concerts around the globe.
